Curt Johnson shares...
Of all the possible businesses, why did you choose network marketing as a business? When I was looking for a business to start part time and supplement my
meager income through full time ministry, a friend of mine had purchased a franchise. He invested hundreds of thousands of dollars, and from my point of view, had simply bought himself and 80 hour/week job with all the headaches of employees, etc.
I choose network marketing for a number of reasons: 1. Low start up: I simply didn't have the means to start a traditional business or purchase even a low end franchise.
2. Start part time: I needed a business that I could get going part time - and originally had thought that is all it ever would be. 3. Set my own hours: I needed a business that I could work and set my own hours. 4. No Employees: Having managed a business in the past, I wanted a business without the stress and hassles of employees.
Was your business an "instant success" or did you experience challenges along the way?
There was, and continue to be, many challenges. The first 3 months I didn't sponsor anyone. The rest of that year I recruited some people, but saw no work or duplication on my team. The next year was a learning curve that cost me an enormous amount of time and money. The challenges now have to do with dealing with managing my time and a successful team, but have come to the conclusion there will always be challenges, but they can and will be overcome!
How does Leaders Club fit into your business model? I initially came into Leaders Club looking for MLM leads. The bottom line is that 99.9% of networkers need to expand beyond their "warm" market to get to full time income in this industry. This truth needs to be told more. Since coming into Leaders Club though, it
is the training that fits my business model so well. Training is necessary for success in any industry. ANYONE in ANY industry that expects to make a 6 figure annual income has to be really good at what they do - including our industry! It is unfortunate that many in our industry misrepresent or hide this fact.
What advice would you give to someone serious about succeeding in this industry? 1. Learn - and continue to learn.
2. Let the professionals do the advertising. I wasted a TON of money trying to do my own ads in generating my own leads. After much wasted time, effort, and money - it became very apparent that the pro's are simply better at this and purchasing leads is far more cost effective for a growing network marketer. 3. Be Accountable. Although we like Network Marketing because we can "fire our boss," we as human
being also need accountability in our business. Since being accountable, my business has grown strong and consistently for many months now. 4. Have FUN! Work with a group of people and enjoy the process. Learn to enjoy calling people and getting to know them. This is a journey that is FUN, and the destination of personal FREEDOM is well worth the trip. To be your own boss and make a 6k income without employees and overhead is great. People will
continue to do what they enjoy and are good at. Learn and have FUN - and success simply comes - it has to.
