Program Transcript:Choose Your Mentor or Network Marketing Coach WiselyIf you wanted to become a top athlete or even perform better in any field your first instinct would be to get a coach.
And you
would be right...
Every winning sports team, every winning athlete rises to the top with the help of a coach. Desire, discipline and direction are important factors - but it’s a good coach who can harness, fuel and guide potential.
Network marketing or business success isn’t much different. You have to bring certain qualities to the table such as knowing what you want to achieve and being willing to pay the price to reach your goals.
But a coach can make the
difference by providing you with direction and helping you stay accountable to your own progress.
And this is where expertise becomes a vital component...
This about it like this...
If you wanted to reach the top in a particular sport, you wouldn’t hire a coach because he or she read a book about the sport, would you?
And I bet you wouldn’t hire a coach based on how many hours of video they watched or if they played played your sport for a bit back in
high school, would you?
No!
You would want someone that had a lot of knowledge in the sport, played it extensively. Maybe they were a star but more importantly you would seek someone that had proven their ability to coach people to the top of their level.
So why is it that most network marketers take the opposite approach in their business?
I think the problem is because we can really call ourselves whatever we want. I know of quite a few organizations were
everyone is encouraged to call themselves a coach or mentor - even if they just started two weeks ago.
And while network marketing is built on the upline/downline relationship it’s dangerous and harmful to have people present themselves experts when they’re really not. It’s one reason why there over 90% of marketers fail - there are so many half complete strategies - so many things that sound good but haven’t been tested and proven that people waste time, money
and energy pursuing the wring thing. They burn out without making real progress toward their goal.
Some people use this to try and convince you you’re upline is lying to you. But there’s a big difference between being misinformed and lying. Giving bad advice because you’re not versed in what really matters, is not the same as knowing the truth and deliberately telling you something different.
The neat thing about network marketing is that your upline
doesn’t necessarily need to be your coach. In fact it may be more beneficial if they aren’t because then your coach is more likely to have your own interests at heart.
When considering a coach - or weather or not to take the advice of an expert, consider their background and level of success. Did they just start last week or are they full time marketers? Are they accredited or certified by an organization or have they just given themselves a label?
Have they coached
others and are you on board with their style of interaction? And last but not least - do they have a clearly defined code of ethics? Because it’s too common in today’s world for someone calling themselves a coach to take advantage of that relationship for their own gain rather than for yours.
Very rarely in today’s world does success just happen by chance. If you know what you want to achieve and know how to get there, you already have the most critical elements. If
not, a qualified coach or advisor may be just the right person to help you succeed by design. |
